Powerful, Strong, Relentless. Christian Woman!

Luke 1:45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!"

I'm a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother (GG); I'm even a sister. Still, most of all, I am a child of God, and God is the head of my life and has always been.

We'll peel back the tapestry of my life for a few moments as I share the highlights of my existence with you. Oh, allow me to introduce myself. I am Mrs. Katie Marie Brashears.

The genesis of my life was in a small East Texas oil town named Carthage, about 20 miles from the border of Louisiana. At the time of my birth, our population was around 1,400. We experienced hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. I was born at the time of year when everything was brand new: flowers were blooming, trees had new buds, the grass was growing, and crops of cotton, corn, sweet potatoes, oats, and sugarcane were planted. And I, too, was brand new to my parents, Lewis and Julia Wall. I made my grand appearance on Sunday, May 5th, 1930. Yet, all the legal papers say May 6th, of 1929 just wanted to set the record straight. I was one of six children. My siblings were Robert, James, Lucy, Annie and Jannie. We grew up in a Christian home. Being from a small town, there wasn't much to do but love one another, read the Bible, and worship God. Giving praise to the glory of Jesus. Therefore, at a young age, I established my relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I was educated in Marshall, Texas where I graduated from Pemberton High School. While in school, I played basketball and found my God-given gift of song. I was blessed with a soprano voice. I sang opera, and I love doing so to the praises of God.

Then I moved to Denver Co, where I met and married my soulmate, a man I spent more than 70 years with, Mr. Gerald Brashears, Sr. Together, we created our legacy of love with our three beautiful children. Gerald Junior was our oldest, followed by Gervais and our baby girl, Cynthia Marie. We joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, where we raised our children and continue to serve our Lord and Savior. Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. And I was further blessed to see our heritage continue through our 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

I loved fashion; therefore, I made it a point to be stylish from head to toe. I loved hats. I made a retail career working at Neusteter's Department Store, Jean Nicole's', and finished with Russell Stouffer's Candy.

As an active Syrian Temple #49 member, I spent much of my free time with my Shrine brothers and sisters.

Outside of well-fashioned clothing and hats, my other guilty pleasures were German Chocolate cake and French vanilla ice cream. I love watching the Nuggets play, and when they became world champions in 2023, I was thrilled.

It was the time of year when snow fell, and the temperatures dipped, and you could find ice on the ground with icicles cascading from your roof. When Katie crossed that majestic river. When she got to the other side, there to meet her was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her father, her mother, and other family and friends that had crossed before her.

Regardless of the trials and tribulations placed before Katie, she stood firm, powerful, and relentless, and most of all, she never forgot her Christian roots. As the songwriter says, I learned to trust in Jesus. Through it all, I learned to trust in God.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Brashears, son Gervais, her parents Lewis and Julia Wall, and her grandson Martel Thomas. Moreover, Mrs. Katie Marie Brashears light will forever shine in the lives she's left behind to treasure her memory. Her children Gerald Junior, Gervais and Cynthia Marie. God-daughter Michele Poke. Katie's four grandchildren; Forrest, Kevin, Codie and Keisha and eleven Great-Grandchildren, Katie's Macedonia Baptist Church and Syrian Temple #49 families. Plus, a host of other family and friends.
