Estella Consuelo
Grigg
February 9, 1944 – August 5, 2021
Its early morning, and time have stood still as Estella could see clearly as the sun came over the horizon. The sun radiates more brilliantly than she remembered. Estella sat with her feet in the water that was formed by a rill. She "walks in quiet solitude in the forest and the streams seeking grace in every step she takes." "Her sight has turned inside herself to try and understand the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake." As butterflies float around her, Estella sees the beauty of God's work. Oh yes! This is Estella's happy place.
Estella was born on February 09, 1944, in the town of Berlin, in the county Gomez Palacio, in the state of Durango (Mexico). Her name was Consuelo Nieto Agüero. She was the youngest child of Jose Guadalupe Nieto and Santos Agüero. As a child, Consuelo lived in the town of La Aurora, in the county Gomez Palacio, in the state of Durango, Mexico. Surrounded by the love of a family as a little girl, she was known to love animals, always willing to help family, and very kind. As the youngest child, she was dotted over, and yet she was trained in the fashion and ways of her ancestry and culture. She learned how to cook tamales, buñuelos, and celebrate her faith as part of the festivities. She also had a wonderful voice. For entertainment in her small town, people were known to pay her to serenade loved ones and sing their favorite songs. Growing up she heard of the ocean and other places people had seen. She vowed to visit the ocean one day and see the world as much as she could.
As Consuelo reached maturity, she became a mother, giving birth to two beautiful children Antonio and Nora. She chose to support her family rather than continuing college. Family had and always have come first in her life. In El Paso, Texas, while taking care of Robert and Bronco Grigg, she met their older brother, John David Grigg II. The two fell in love instantly with one challenge that stood between them a language barrier; Consuelo didn't speak English, and John didn't speak Spanish. Yet when GOD has a plan, he will make away. John was drafted into the Army and shipped to Germany while Consuelo, Antonio, and Nora were in Texas. For two years, Consuelo and John wrote letters to one another, having friends translate for each. Finally, John, in a letter, asked Consuelo to marry him. Consuelo answered back, "Are you crazy? I have two children?" John replied, "When you LOVE the Tree, you LOVE the Leaves." That sealed it. Consuelo said yes! On Thursday, December 28, 1972, they were married in Aurora Colorado. Upon being married, Consuelo changed her name to Estella Consuelo and John lovingly called her Chelo. To get over the language trials, Estella learns English by watching General Hospital and playing Scrabble, while going to school to gain her citizenship. Estella was very proud of gaining her citizenship, learning English, and supporting her family.
As life moves fluidly, the Grigg family settled in Aurora, Colorado, and purchased their first and forever home, enjoying all that life had to offer. At this time, they expanded their family with a beautiful girl Mary. After working in several different industries, she started working at North Middle School in Aurora Co and was there over 20 years, where she liked working with the kids in detention. She loved her job, often working weekends to provide for her family. She was a wonderful example of hard work and resilience in the face adversity through those years. She helped organize North Middle School's first Cinco de Mayo celebration by teaching the students traditional dances, providing garnets and decorations. She es very proud of her work ethic and happy to share her culture.
Estella and John loved reading and would frequent Barnes & Noble or the library that was their date night as they grew older. Estella and John both love nature, hiking, camping, bicycling, fishing, and taking pictures. They love going to the park and feeding the ducks and other wildlife. Family time consisted of playing games, eating out, going to The Butterfly Pavilion, the zoo, and museums. They were happiest, just enjoying one another. They were married and remained that way until death did they part. Estella collected carriage houses and loved working in her flower beds her favorite flowers were iris and peace roses. Estella, John, and the family loved road trips and vacations visiting the National Parks, i.e., Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc. Estella loved the ocean, waterfalls, and cruises.
Although Estella embraced the American lifestyle, Estella never forgot her roots. Estella relished in old Mexican Rancheros music while still adoring Shakira, Selena Quintanilla, Lucero, and old rock and roll. She liked the Vicente Fernandez and Estela Nunez. Estella was baptized in the Catholic Church as; she lived in Mexico when she came to the United States and raised her children, she remained in the faith. Estella and Mary (and family), on Saturdays, would go to Michael's to get materials and create crafts. They also would get pedicures, manicures and have a mother and daughter dates. One of Estella's legacies is how she taught her children to have a love for nature, a love for people, a love for crafts, and a love for one another. Estella Consuelo Grigg was known for making people's lives better than they were.

I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright.
There is a perfect joy and beauty
in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus' love illuminated
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
in the way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on
could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
for I love you dearly still.
Try to look beyond death's shadows;
Pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand.
Do it now, while life remaineth;
you shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting;
Oh, the joy to see you come!
