The Heart of a Giver

A home fueled by warm adoration, so much anticipation, and eagerness from her mother Maxine, Father Sylvester, and her sisters Nancy Jo, and Peggy Williams, as they awaited the arrival of the new bundle of joy. Their thoughts were, "would it be another girl, or would the family finally have their 1st boy?" She was born the 3 rd child of 7 children. She is survived by Ashante aka Carol Gay, Sylvester Jr., Gladys Beth & Rodney! On the 31 st day of January 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, a beautiful baby girl was born, named Sylvia Michelle Williams! S he was affectionately known as Sylkie or Silver.

At the Bethel Baptist Church in Omaha, she was baptized, where she accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age!  Sylvia was also a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the late Pastor P.H. Gholston.  In late 1967, Sylvia and her family moved to the mile-high city of Denver, Colorado!

Sylvia received her formal education in Denver Public Schools. She attended Hallett Elementary, Kunsmiller Junior High, East and George Washington High School. She became a debutant for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Denver Chapter! She was also crowned Miss. Rhomania because of her outstanding efforts. Sylvia was very athletic. She ran track, was a gymnast, a pom-pom cheerleader, and received the achievement of being the middle school M.V.P in basketball. Also she worked at the USAF Finance / Accounting and Management Center, from '76-77, then entered college!  Sylvia would sing and dance in college at Metropolitan state college.  She enjoyed modern dance. She was a part of the famous Cleo Parker Robinson dance ensemble! She also performed in many dance performances around the city. One in particular was "Granny has a Holiday Drum!

While in middle school, Sylvia met a young man named Milton Cosby that became her sweetheart for the majority of her life. During that relationship they produced a handsome son Marcus Cosby in May of 1986 and eight years later in late March of 1994 they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Brittany Williams!

Sylvia worked at the United States Postal Service and dedicated 37 years of her life. She also would participate in breast cancer walks, fed the hungry, clothed the homeless, and other programs in Denver. She always helped others regardless of their disposition as a member of the CSC program at the post office, where she retired in 2013.

Sylvia's main passions were gardening, sewing, cooking, listening to music, traveling, as well as spending time with her loved ones. She preferred listening to the greatest acts such as Al Jarreau, the Temptations, Jamie Foxx, Earth Wind and Fire, the O Jay's, Tupac, and Miles Jaye, just to name a few of her favorites. Sylvia enjoyed traveling to various places such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Arizona etc! She would be considered a seamstress and tailoring was her favorite, because of all the clothing she made throughout the years. Sylvia had a green thumb and gardening put her in a state of solace. Whilst in her happy place, she would be thinking of ways to bring her harvest to fruition for her family. She learned to cook from watching her mother and she grew plenty of fresh collard greens to go along with the black-eyed peas, corn bread, and chicken thighs that she would prepare. She also loved snow crab legs with butter and catfish.

Sylvia became a grandmother in 2004 and was blessed with 5 grandchildren that she loved dearly; 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter that were the center of her world. They are Zuriel, Markie, Micah, Marcus Jr., and her granddaughter Armani. She recently became a great grandmother by the birth of her great granddaughter Za'Kiyah, whom she had the pleasure of meeting before she transitioned.

Malcolm X once said, "We need more light about each other. Light creates understanding. Understanding creates love. Love creates patience. Patience creates unity". To know her was to know a true goddess and to know untainted love!

On the 20 th day of October, all the love and things she harvested were let into the horizon amongst her family! The complete love, grace and sufferance Sylvia Michelle Williams exuded were planted into the people she loved most.

"We can never love someone as much as we will miss them." Therefore, Sylvia's life will echo through eternity in the hearts and minds of those who cherished and loved her the most.
