Phyllis D.
Campbell
May 4, 1956 – December 21, 2020
It's Sunday, morning Diane is standing in the kitchen cleaning chitterlings, mixing her batter for cornbread so she can cook her fabulous dressing. Picking greens and snapping green beans while peeling potatoes for her smothered onions and potatoes dish. Vegetables she produced in her own garden. This meal will stir the souls of her family. Diane was using the skills she learned from her mother. While all along, Diane is listening to that R&B sound from her playlist.
Getting ready to host her family's gathering, Phyllis DIANE Campbell was in her happy place; doing the things she enjoyed the most.
Diane was a remarkable, extraordinary, and phenomenal woman. These are a few words to describe Ms. Phyllis DIANE Campbell, referred to as Diane.
Inclusively Diane was a Mother, daughter, homemaker, provider, sister, auntie, and friend. These are the many roles Diane performed during her sixty-four years of life.
Diane was the third child born to Mandzay and Thelma Wright. They produced two incredible daughters and two terrific sons.
It was a Friday, in Lubbock, Texas, the sixth day of the week, and the fourth day of the month. The temperature grew to 85°. This is the average warmth for Lubbock in the last stages of spring. Mandzay was trying to keep Thelma cool as she had gone into labor. Will it be a daughter or another son? Either or would be acceptable a healthy baby is an answer to their prayers on the 4th day of May 1956.
At last, the appointed time arrived. Finally, a beautiful baby girl, so lovely Mandzay and Thelma, couldn't resist naming their new daughter Phyllis Diane. To this union, four children were born. They were Donald Ray Wright, Paula Wright, Phyllis Wright, and Michael Wright.
As Thelma's and Mandzay's relationship ran its course, Thelma met a young, energetic preacher Henry Miles. Thelma and Henry were married and moved their family to Colorado; Diane was three years of age. To this union, six more children were delivered. Jackie Miles, Laurie Miles, David Miles, Joseph Miles, Mary Miles, and Vicki Miles added Henry's two sons Henry Miles and one other, to the mix.
Diane grows up in the church her parents formed Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. The youth choir consisted of the Wright-Miles children. At a young age, Diane received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, being baptized as a symbol of her faith.
Diane was educated in Denver, Public Schools. Diane attended Cole Junior High School and Manual High School. The time came about, and Diane; would marry; she met Mr. Allen Campbell and together their baby girl Monica was born. Diane's and Allen's relationship faltered a short time later.
Diane continues to be a mother and provider, raising Monica to be a reflection of love. Once Monica reached the age of maturity, she moved to Oxen Hill, MD, with Diane's older sister Paula Cheeks, she was eighteen. Much to her surprise, Diane informed her that she was with a child. Rev. Henry Brown and Diane created a beautiful baby girl. Whose eyes were so rich and dark they named her Ebony.
As time would have it, Diane and Henry's relationship ended, and yet again, Diane unrelenting as a caregiver to her new baby. Monica and Ebony are eighteen years apart. They are close and share the same fond childhood memories. Monica reminisces on their mother's famous card parties. However, one has to wonder if Diane's friends came to play cards, dominos, or eat Diane's good cooking. Either way, it made for good times. Ebony reminisces on inspirational notes and fun drawings they left for each other around the house.
Monica gives Diane the third most extraordinary gift of all; that is after her and Ebony. That was a grandson Josiah Bright. When Josiah was born, Diane grabbed the baby and ran into the hall, showing him off to all who passed by, saying, "I have a grandson!"
Being the first grandchild she was a proud grandmother and always bragged on him to whoever would listen. He will always remember the words spoken to him to stand on and not lose his morals and values and to try to be the best person he can be and to always pray and not faint.
Diane retired from Pinnacol Insurance after twenty-three years of service. This allowed her time to tend to her houseplants, flowerbeds, and garden. Diane, on occasion, would knit, crochet, and even draw. Moreover, Diane would read her favorite authors, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and D.C. Andrews. She would even watch Family Feud, Bernie Mac, or the Lifetime Movie Chanel.
It was a Monday when Diane walked and passes through the Valley of Death. The 21st day of December 2020. When Diane reached the stream of everlasting life. To meet her was her father Henry, Mother Thelma, her brother Donald Ray, sister Jackie, and many Wright, Campbell/Miles dynasty members.
Yet, Diane's legacy and rich heritage will still persevere. In the lives of her daughter's Monica and Ebony. Siblings Paula, Michael (Joyce). Laurie, David, Joseph, Mary, Vicki, and Henry James, and grandson Josiah Bright. With a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
Phyllis Diane, you have ignited a flame in our hearts that shall never be extinguished.
