Obituary

Phebe, beloved daughter of Lawrence D. and Mary E. Lassiter was born on a Monday evening July 13, 1981 in Denver, Colorado. What a joy to welcome this precious baby into our lives, our arms and our hearts, and from the very beginning, we nicknamed her, Phebe Sunshine.

Phebe was the mother of two dearly beloved sons, Tevye Lawrence and Shane Ajani Kent. Her love for the Lord and her sons encouraged her to choose well thought-out, Godly names. Tevye means "Goodness of God" or "God is good". Shane means God is gracious". Tevye and Shane were the light in her eyes and precious to her heart. Their hugs meant so much to her. She really liked it when they would watch movies together, talk, and have good times. She supported Tevye in his playing of sports and Shane in his music. Her children were her deepest treasure.

Phebe was a great encourager. Telling others about opportunities for school, trades, financial aid community resources and she loved to talk to people about how they are doing asking how she may assist them to achieve their goals. Of the many professional occupations she has held, academic advising was the most rewarding to her. She had a heart to serve, to help and give to others. Phebe served on two Boards of Directors, Greater Park Hill Incorporated and Athletics and Beyond. Phebe had an appreciation for art, music, going to museums, reading, abstract drawing and was an excellent writer. Her sense of humor would keep us in stitches. She would tell the corniest jokes and we'd laugh and laugh. We will truly miss her laughter.

Phebe was a charter member of Loving Saints Christian Fellowship and remained a member until her passing. This is where she confessed her love for the Lord and His Word. She was baptized by her grandmother and founder of LSCF, Rev. Mother Sidney Adams, PhD. She also sang in the Little Youth Unlimited Choir.

Phebe attended Knight Academy, Place Middle School and CHANGE Christian
Academy where she was valedictorian of her continuating class. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where she received an Outstanding Senior Award and was often on the honor roll. She attended Metropolitan State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. She later obtained an advanced Master of Science degree from the Colorado State University in Organizational Leadership, Strategic Innovation and Change Management. She also received many awards and certificates including the Urban Leadership Foundation of Colorado through Colorado Chamber Connect and the African American Leadership Institute.

On October 23, 2024, our precious daughter, mom, friend, confidant, niece, went home to be with the Lord. No words can express the depth of our sorrow, yet,  we humble ourselves to the will of Almighty God.

Preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Rev. Mother Sidney Adams and Douglas K. Adams, Bennie Lee and Carrie Bailey, her uncles Claude H. Parson and James E. Parson

Those who are left to cherish her memories include her sons, Tevye Lawrence and Shane Ajani Kent, her parents, Lawrence and Mary, her sister Tonya Lanese, her Aunt Carolyn I.
