Naomi
Mcgowan
January 14, 1936 – May 6, 2025
Naomi McGowan was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, passing peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Her life was a radiant reflection of grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
Naomi was born on January 14, 1936, in Joliet, Illinois, to Mallie and Demetrius Hogue. She was the second of four children and grew up surrounded by family and music. A gifted soprano, Naomi was active in her high school choir and dreamed of one day pursuing a professional music career.
On July 10, 1955, Naomi married her high school sweetheart, Henry Dove McGowan. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and family. In September 1960, they packed up their 1950 Dodge sedan and moved to Denver, Colorado, with their young children—Darrell, Lori, Roger, and newborn Marcia—in hopes of improving Marcia's health.
Naomi's life was marked by a deep devotion to God. She gave her heart to Christ and found lasting fellowship through her church communities. She used her voice to glorify God, singing in church choirs wherever life took her. As the McGowan family grew to include a fifth child, Karla, Naomi nurtured their home with warmth and selflessness.
Wherever Henry's career led them—whether to Pueblo or later Greeley—Naomi continued to serve with an open heart. She became a foster mother to several children, eventually welcoming their youngest daughter, Renee, into the family through adoption. With fierce love and dedication, Naomi learned sign language to communicate with Renee and became a tireless advocate for her education and rights.
In Greeley, she joined the Greeley Chorale, where her music created lasting friendships and touched countless lives. Later, in 1977, the family settled in Littleton, Colorado, where Naomi found a beloved church home at The Bridge at Bear Creek. There, her love for music continued to shine as she joined the Joy Belles, a devoted women's choir who through their ministry, brought comfort and joy to residents of nursing homes and small group homes across the Front Range.
Driven by her passion for cosmetology, Naomi enrolled at Emily Griffith Technical College. After graduating, she found her calling at ManorCare Health Services in the beauty salon. Naomi truly lit up when working with her clients, she cherished the happiness that radiated from them and enjoyed listening to the stories they shared. For Naomi, each day was an opportunity to uplift others, combining her creativity with her heartfelt compassion to make every person feel seen, heard, and beautiful. Naomi was also a seamstress, a passionate gardener, and a gifted cook—but it was her time spent with friends and family that she cherished above all.
After Henry's passing, Naomi moved to Aurora, Colorado in December 2020 to be closer to her family. This final chapter was filled with daily visits, joyful celebrations, and the deep comfort of being surrounded by love. Even as her health declined, Naomi's faith remained unshakable. She spoke often of her love, trust, and faith in God.
Naomi's legacy lives on in the kindness she shared, the care she offered to others, the beauty of her voice, and the unconditional love that touched everyone who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are: In McGowan, Lori McGowan, Roger (Vieda) McGowan, Marcia (Greg) Taylor, Karla McGowan, and Renee McGowan; brothers Lee Hogue; Kelvin (Kerrie) Hogue, Demetrius (Geraldine) Hogue Jr.;10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her love also lives on in a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and the many hearts she touched along the way
