Milton Thomas Young
February 9, 1938 to March 2, 2023
Milton was very young when his parents lived in the "woods and country" of Camp Ville, Florida. He would often have you cracking up about "them" woods. Milton never cared for bugs, snakes, and other items from the woods. He was so happy when his mom told him they were getting ready to move from Camp Ville to Orlando, Florida. He was so excited to hear they would live in a town without snakes, bugs, or whatever you may find in the woods!
Milton had beautiful, loving parents who didn't take any "stuff" from him. They showed a lot of love by teaching him right from wrong; all he had to do was obey. If he didn't, he knew he would be in trouble. When other kids tried to talk Milton into doing something wrong, he would tell them, "You all don't know who my mom is; she is something else, and she must have brains in the back of her head because she always knew when I did something wrong."
Milton always remembered Goffy's Ice Cream, located on a major highway in Orlando. All the children who knew about it went there after school to get an ice cream cone or a milkshake. They had a variety of flavors that Milton and his friends loved.
Although Orlando was a beautiful city, Blacks did not have the same rights that everyone else had, but his parents provided everything he needed or wanted. During Milton's primary years in Orlando, there was only one non-integrated elementary school from 1st to 6th grade and one non-integrated high school from 7th to 12th grade. Everyone who graduated from Jones High School was honored and felt blessed. In 1955, Milton graduated from Jones High School.
After graduating from high school, there was little that one could do in Orlando. The jobs were just not there for many students, whether they graduated or not. At 17, Milton decided to go into the Air Force. He knew it would be difficult, but it was a place he could get a monthly check and send it home to his mother and father. Milton was successful in the Air Force; however, he was sad to see the mistreatment of people of color. He realized that racism was real, and it didn't matter where he went; racism was everywhere. He believed that despite the challenges, he could do anything life had to offer.
While stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, Milton and his friends went to church. Lovie invited Milton and his friends to youth fellowship. It was "love at first sight." She was his everything, and he called home and told his parents that he met and fell in love with this beautiful woman. Milton won the hearts of Gracie and Ardalure by marrying their daughter, Lovie. Milton then went to her father and asked permission to marry his daughter.
Milton's mom and dad waited fourteen years to have another child, a boy, Joseph. Soon after, his parents had a girl, Inez. Milton was so proud to have a little sister. Eventually, his parents had two more children, both girls, Linda and Ida. Milton kept all of them straight, guiding and telling them about life and what to do and not do. On one occasion, Milton came home from the Air Force, and his sisters were so excited. Inez asked Milton if he would come to her school (Jones High) to show all her friends that she had a big brother in the Air Force. Milton felt honored to go, and when he got to the school, he interrupted the class and said, "I am Inez Lorraine Young's brother who was in the Air Force, and now I am married and living in Denver, Colorado." The class almost fainted in disbelief, but his little sister was so overjoyed that everyone got to see her brother, whom she had told for years that she had a big brother.
Milton and Lovie's next journey was having children. They had Cynthia as the first little girl; she was so adorable. After Cynthia, Lawrence was born. "Larry" was always so much fun! He kept everyone going and doing all kinds of things (just like Milton). But having a son was such a joy for Milton and Lovie. Lo and behold, here comes Jeffrey, who was nothing but a bundle of joy!
After earning an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he started his employment Journey with the Martin Company and Braniff Airways. After leaving Braniff, Milton entered an illustrious career with Service Employees International Union Local 105, where he retired as the local union's president and served offices at the national level. Post-retirement, Milton went back to work and became a supervisor at Mercury Management, later called BG Maintenance, working at Stapleton and Denver International Airport.
Through Milton's guidance, he orchestrated a household that was full of joy. You could not have asked God for a better connection to a family than what the world saw in the "Young Family."
Milton leaves to mourn his wonderful, devoted, and loving wife, Lovie D. Young; his children, Cynthia Renee Young (Antwan J. Harmon Sr. deceased) and her son, Antwan J. Harmon Jr.; Lawrence Duane Young (named after Grandfather Lawrence D. Young), (Christina) and their children, Malcolm Stephens, Maya Stephens, Macy Stephens, Maryn Grace Young; Jeffrey Thomas Young (Tracy) and their children, Drue White (Denise), Jasmine (Chigozie), Christopher (Brittany), Aaron (Hannah).
He also leaves his siblings, Joseph Young (Diane) and daughter, Jennifer; Inez Young Watson (Harold Watson deceased), and children Kimberly Gordon (Jamel), Angela Watson Shyllon (Akeem) Kyree Shyllon, Makaiya Shyllon, Makenzi Shyllon (Twins) Harold Kelton Watson, II (Shyteria Watson) Aria, Alyse,
and Aliyah; Ida Young and children Daniale Young, Arthar Young, Lorraine Young, Christopher Johnson, and Trenity Young; Linda L. Young (Michael Young).
