Kristi Lavern Brooks, 67, would be called into the arms of the Lord in the early morning hours Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Broomfield, Colorado.
She was born Valerie J. Lawton on October 29, 1958 to Phyllis H. Tillie Williams and Ellis Douglas in Topeka, Kansas before her adoption by Phyllis Barber and Leon Brooks sometime later. They then legally changed her name to Kristi LaVern. Both biological and adoptive parents preceded her in death.
She attended East High School where she would be a member of the female ROTC drill team, choir, and other clubs. She would graduate and move forward to CU Boulder where she would major in music. She would later serve proudly as a Private First-Class armory specialist in the United States Army. Kristi would become a valued employee of the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 2010.During her youth, and in her retirement, she would bless others with her beautiful voice as a member of the church choirs at Shorter A.M.E. Church, and New Hope Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish in her memory, her daughter, Patricia Holmes of Denver, CO; her grandchildren, Leon Holmes, Matthew Peeples, Eris Holmes-Peeples, and Sarai Peeples, all of Denver, Colorado; her sisters, Ciji Locust, and Monique Williams-Singh, both of Topeka, Kansas; her nieces and nephews Jeremy John Albert Kendrick, Cierra Lynda Kendrick-Jackson, Jyucshi AhyuSchoud Williams, all of Topeka, Kansas; 3 great great nieces, and 3 great great nephews.
