Everything is different now; nothing is the same.
Every breath I take is a thought of you.
Every song or melody that plays reminds me of you and your love for music and for the message it sends.
When I see your children, I see pieces of you. Maybe you had so many because there was so much of you this world needed and just one child couldn't contain it all. It is the cool and collected mannerisms of Drake whose heart is as tender and sensitive as yours; and then I look to Bailey and can see how she carries your stance and desire to please. Blaze is another story altogether; he is your spitting image and when I see him, I see your complete physical reflection; it's like you are right there, on my floor again, making the biggest mess ever! He embodies all the wild and spirited nature you now leave behind! Don't worry, I'll take care with him and I'll watch him closely for you.
Movies:
Absolutely was, and still is, the number 1 fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Same thing with the entire Star Wars saga; Jeremy was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and loved football in general. Because he loved the Cowboys and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles his favorite colors would be navy and green (maybe not together though). He enjoyed reading and did have a knack for learning written text quickly. He enjoyed history and real literature. He was a fan of Winnie the Pooh and was quick to let everyone know that Winnie's last name was not "Pooh", but that he was a "Pooh Bear"; his name was just "Winnie" and he was a "Pooh".
He liked action movies and even spooky movies. We always had fun with those because it was always, "no, don't go in the basement"; "no, don't go in the attic"; "no, do not go in the dark woods alone"! We were always suckers for the jump scare and screamed our heads off!
His love for cooking started with burning everything in my kitchen; which is funny, because when he was little it was such a challenge to get him to eat his food to begin with. But after many ruined pots and pans he started getting the knack for it and worked as a Chef at an Italian restaurant in town and then took a sabbatical and worked as a Chef out in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This is where his love for the mountains kicked in and he chose to move out to Denver where he fell on hard times. Those hard times were mixed with homelessness and poverty. The shame and humiliation of his homeless situation prevented him from reaching out or accepting help from those who loved him. Without a steady job and a lack of funds, his journey took a dark turn. His health deteriorated and during the pandemic, he contracted Covid-19 and succumbed to it.
Jeremy stayed with his grandparents in Texas some and traveled to Germany for many summers and Christmases. It was quite a nice life getting to travel abroad regularly with them. Although, after some years he just wanted to stay back in America with his family and friends.
Jeremy loved animals of all kinds. He would even find little snakes and would get so excited to let you know. He never kept them, and he didn't hurt them; he always let them go. He had 2 bearded dragons, cats and dogs.
Jeremy's goals were simple. He wanted to be loved and accepted for the free spirit he was. He was only a baby when he began having his own babies. He wanted to have fun with his children and wanted to love them and them be happy. It was as if he raised playmates and just had the best time with them. He was never too much of a man to not get down on the ground and play with them, this includes tea parties and dressing up and making costumes at Halloween.
If it was outside, it was a hobby. He loved being outside, football, hiking, camping, climbing waterfalls and trees, exploring creeks, finding critters and bringing them home. Even as an adult, he LOVED being outside and all those things he did when he was little; well, he kept doing them. He loved children, even when he was a teenager, he was always a kid and played with them all! He encouraged his children to play outside and would swing them on the biggest of rope swings! He had a large family including a total of 26 cousins, who even when they had babies, they all hovered around Jeremy because Jeremy would run, play and tumble with them acting like the biggest fool! No one will ever make me laugh till I cried like he did.
He was an amazing and skilled guitar player and loved music like no other. He encouraged his little sister with her guitar and helped propel her into stage performances. His little sister came when he was already 14 years old and she was his favorite person ever. He never hesitated to watch her and entertain her and took such pride to being the big brother.
Stories:
We have 10 acres and when we would camp in the field, we would play games. Jeremy took it very seriously. A game of Hide & Seek meant lots of hiding and running. He loved it! He took such measures to ensure he would not be found! This meant cheating. Taking a black long-sleeved shirt inside out so the moonlight would not reflect off of his shirt; he would grab any little white dog we had and even tuck him under his shirt because the dog would give him away, and he'd run like a quarter back all the way to base.
Tonya was his girlfriend of 9 years and the two of them would have cake fights at Gillian's birthday party. There was the one time he put candles on his little sister's birthday cake and she couldn't blow them out. The fire got bigger and bigger until it became scary… he finally grabbed the candles with his bare hands and saved the day!
There are just too many stories and too many memories. The hole in our lives is like an abyss. I could easily fall in it, but I know that I have to just watch my step and take each day one at a time.
Jeremy actually saved 2 lives when he was a teenager. He saw a man turn his riding lawn mower over and without hesitation, he stopped his car, flew out and got that man out from under it. He was an elderly man. The 2
nd
time he saved a man, was when he witnessed a tragic car accident and got a man out from a burning car. As far-fetched as it sounded, I had to check the news, and I'll be…. It really happened. He never hesitated to do what his heart told him to do… except for the last moments of his life. As long as he gave his life for the Lord, even if the words would not come. I pray he only waits for me as I was his biggest fan and loved him more than life.
Half Of My Heart Is Gone
Son, I wish I could wake up and see you standing there.
Then I would know that it was just a nightmare.
Son, I remember when you were small and how you would hold my hand,
and as you grew older you became my best friend.
Son, I have 34 years of memories that I will treasure and keep safe in my heart.
We share a bond that time and distance can never break apart.
Son, oh how my heart aches so.
I would love to have you back and never let you go.
Son, where there was happiness,
now there is sadness.
Son, how I long to hear your voice and see your beautiful smile
and have you back for just a little while.
Son, until that day I see you again,
I will look to the sky and search among the stars for my son and best friend.
Love,
Mom & Dad
