Obituary

Delores Lopez Schuler aka Grand Dee or "Dee" (formerly Delores Barbour-Borom) was born to Maudie Mae Lopez and Augustine Mariano Luzod on December 27,1937 in Columbus Ohio. Delores birthed two daughters Antoinette Barbour & Dominique Barbour-Blocker. She was known for her healthy robust attitude about life, and transitioned quietly at home Feb 26, 2022.

She attended Ohio State and Spellman college earning degrees in Business Management & English Literature. Dee was a beautiful savvy regal woman with class and artistic talent. In life she was well respected, very observant and a palpable force of nature. She had a sharp creative mind with an indomitable spirit and a great sense of humor. She was fierce, graceful, determined, loyal, and overall well liked. Her words could raise you up, or cut you swiftly to shreds like a samurai sword. She was very articulate never mincing words, she simply told you the truth. If she had your back you could count on her unwavering support, if she did not you would hear a deafening silence.

She found great pleasure in all types of sports often placing small bets with friends, loudly cheering and also cursing her favorite teams or players. She was a competitive Bridge player and enjoyed weekly bridge games with great friends. Monthly lunches were an all time favorite with "the Ladies". She was definitely in heaven with really good food. Her laughter would spontaneously erupt being heard by those nearby all throughout the house as well to her neighbors. She often followed conversation with those she loved by saying, "get off my phone!"

She enjoyed relaxing & listening to jazz on her purple leather chaise, or by a fireplace in the Rocky mountains. She loved to travel almost anywhere, some of her favorite places were Alaska, Canada, Caribbean, Chicago, San Francisco, Singapore & Hong Kong. She had a great fondness for the arts, museums, theatre, loved gardening, being in nature, collecting pine cones & petrified rocks. Some of her peaceful moments were spending time in Estes Park.

Dee began a long-standing career at UAL in April 1969. Within her first year she was promoted to a supervisory position because of her quick wit and keen intelligence. She had an amazing ability to see potential pitfalls and incredible opportunities. She received many recognitions, promotions and awards during her 25 years at United. One of the most important achievements she made during her tenure was creating the Black People's Organization; the BPO. She had an unwavering commitment to people of color, particularly Black people who did not have equal rights or pay. She took a big risk with her career and received lots of pushback from United. With great tenacity she persevered ultimately making sure the BPO was established.

United later congratulated her for that effort as they continued to see her value and importance over the years. She worked tirelessly helping to expand UAL national footprint while traveling across the globe. My sister and I are a testament to those many years of her hard work, long hours, and the incredible dedication she gave to them.

After she retired from United in 1993 she began working as a senior tax consultant with H&R Block, later moved on to Elite taxes. She eventually created her own tax consulting business in 2012 known as D & T, LLC working with her long time business associate until her death. She loved to keep her mind sharp and active while living a full life, enriching and touching so many others along the way.

It is a strange and lonely feeling not having her to check in with but I know she is here in spirit, perhaps hanging out occasionally in her winning corner spot at Black Hawk and Wendover. Though her departure has left a huge void in all our lives, I believe she's somewhere in a deeper state of peace smiling at all of us.

She is preceded in death by her grandson James Wyatt Jr "JJ" and great-granddaughter Mya Barbour-Berry. Her spirit will continue to be remembered by her daughters Antoinette and Dominique (Niki). Grandchildren Nicole, Kavar, Delia, Dwawn, Deedra. Eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, several family members, many friends, and clients who adored her.
