Obituary

Darryl A. Sweat entered this world on January 24, 1957, in Denver, Colorado, he was the fourth of five children to Adolph Plummer and Inez Sweat. Darryl's early education took place at Loyola Catholic School and Whittier School, followed by middle and high school at Palmer School and George Washington High School.

During his teenage years, Darryl worked at the Brown Palace Hotel, a tenure that sparked his passion for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. He was a self-taught jack-of-all-trades, mastering skills in bike repair, landscaping, household maintenance, and mechanics. There was nothing Darryl couldn't fix; his determination to understand and repair anything was a testament to his innovative spirit. Known for his resourcefulness, he often "doctored things up" with tape and glue, a signature move that left many with stories to tell.

Darryl lived to the beat of his own drum. His infectious smile and magnetic aura left a lasting impact on everyone he met. The roar of his truck could be heard from miles away, a prelude to his arrival. Darryl's love was expressed through actions rather than material gifts. He was always ready to lend a hand, fix a problem, or simply spend time with those he cared about. His humor was legendary, with stories that left everyone in stitches, and his presence at any gathering was marked by the sound of dominoes clattering on the table.

Despite moving out at 16 and living independently from a young age, his street smarts and life experiences saw him through every challenge life presented. He loved to fish and take road trips, knowing his way around every corner of the US. A protector of his family and loved ones, Darryl was always willing to share his knowledge and tricks with everyone especially his nieces and nephews.

Darryl is preceded in death by his father, Adolph Plummer Sweat; his brothers, Joe Harris and Forris Harris; and his sisters, Linda Pitts and Laverne Sweat.

Darryl departed this world on July 19, 2024, leaving behind his beloved mother, Inez Sweat; his children, Darryl Jr, and Denise; his uncle Roscoe Crawford Jr; his brother-in-law, Richard Pitts; his sister-in-law, Deborah Harris; and his nieces Tina, Denise, Shelia, Inez, and Eboni; His nephews Forris Jr., Darnell, Joe, James, Kenny, Moses, and Rashad, a host of cousins and dear friends.

As I Sit In Heaven

As I sit in heaven
and watch you everyday
I try to let you know with signs
I never went away

I hear you when you're laughing
And watch you as you sleep
I even place my arms around you
To calm you while you weep

I see you wish the days away
Begging to have me home
So I try to send you signs
So you know you are not alone

Don't feel guilty that you have
Life that was denied to me
Heaven is truly beautiful
Just you wait and see

So live your life, laugh again
Enjoy yourself, be free
Then I know with every breath you take
You'll be taking one for me
