OBITUARY FOR DARRELL L. CAULEY
On the afternoon of May 30, 2023, Darrell Lee Cauley of Littleton, CO died at the age of 81.
Darrell is survived by his wife Ruthanne, his daughters Elizabeth Stacy, Katherine Cauley and Margaret Cauley, his sons-in-law Thomas Stacy and Michael Koller, his granddaughters Jamisyn Stacy and Josephine Stacy and his sister Claudia Cauley Klein.
Darrell was born on September 18, 1941 to Mary Sue Pullin Cauley and Harry Harvey Cauley in Washington D.C., where he lived until moving to Virginia with his family. He attended Lexington High School in Lexington VA, class of 1959.
Upon receiving a football scholarship, Darrell attended the University of Cincinnati, where he was proud to become captain of the U.C. Bearcats. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology and entered the Army as an ROTC officer, serving at Ft. Bliss TX until 1967.
Darrell and Ruthanne were married on November 28, 1968 and lived in Cincinnati while he attended grad school at U.C., earning an M.S. in Zoology.
He was accepted into the doctoral program at Michigan State University, graduating with a Ph.D in Wildlife Management.
Darrell spent most of his career at the Federal Center in Lakewood, CO, working for the Bureau of Reclamation, Dept. of Interior as a wildlife biologist.
Darrell and Ruthanne raised their three daughters in Littleton, CO, a wonderful environment to live out his passion for the out-of-doors, enjoying fly fishing, road biking and observing wildlife year round. Another passion for Darrell was traveling with family and dear friends. He loved sharing memories and stories of so many travel adventures.
He was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, known for his generosity, his warm sincere hugs and his wonderful sense of humor.
Darrell will be mourned and missed by so many who love him.
