The Omega Man

Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. This is the motto of that brother.

Darnell J. Sykes lived by. An Omega Man through and through. Darnell would give of himself the uplift others regularly.

Born in the winter of 1956, on Monday, the 27th day of February, to parents James Walton Sykes, Sr., and Elna Sykes, in Chicago, Illinois.

Darnell was the fourth of five children born to this union. The twins Gwenllian, Gwenevere James Walton Sykes, Jr., and the baby girl of the family, Cynthia Sykes. Being a part of a large family, love was abundant, and with love came exhilaration. Darnell was a prankster and would put hot sauce in the mouths of his siblings while they were sleeping.

Educated in Chicago's public school system, Darnell knew the importance of education. After moving to Denver, Darnell expanded on his schooling by attending Auto Mechanic training, Community College of Denver, and the University of Northern Colorado. Darnell pledged to the brotherhood of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Where he met his soulmate Joan "Angle" Sykes. They were married on the 30th of August 1980. Together they made a beautiful couple and an equally lovely family. Their three children, Jamall, Danielle, and Jordan, brought true love and happiness into their lives. To teach his children lessons, especially he they weren't where they were supposed to be, Darnell took Jamall's car to prove a point.

Darnell was a man of action with a whole entrepreneurial spirit and success.

Darnell started his own business Joint Venture-Dimond Reality.

Growing up, GOD was fundamental to the Sykes household. Darnell was Baptized at Shilom Missionary Baptists Church in Chicago. Darnell continued his walk with GOD at l Loving Saints Christian Fellowship in Denver, Co.

As an Omega Man, Darnell and his Fraternity brothers would stop and step, keeping time and tempo along the way.

Darnell was identified as DonWon, Big Pappa, and Big Dog; he was known for saying, "I know almost everything." "If I didn't know it, it probably didn't happen." "If there is any way, it will be done my way, whether right or wrong."

Playing Bid-Wiz and hanging with family and friends give Darnell his greatest pleasure. Yet, Darnell enjoyed Snaped, ESPN, and The Twilight Zone TV shows. He relished in the Funkadelic Old School R&B, Chicago Bulls…Loved Smokie Norful and the song "My GOD is Able."

Springtime in Denver, Colorado, Wednesday, the 6th of April, 2022, a time of newness Darnell had lived his entire life acquiring his heavenly home; and a house not built by man.

As he crossed that Regal River, he was safe in the arms of his parents James W. Sykes Elna Sykes.

Nonetheless, Darnell's life will reverberate in the lives of those he leaves behind.

Wife Joan "Angle" Sykes. Children Jamall (Sherill), Danielle, and Jordan. Siblings Gwenllian, Gwenevere James Walton Sykes, Jr., and Cynthia Sykes. Grandchildren Aziah Thrower and Alexyon Thrower. His godchildren Erynn Burks, Scott O'Hara, Ashley Turner, Jamila Burleson, Hannah Burleson, Dannielle Hill, Javon Brame, Sidney Parson, Chantel Abraham, Tamara Nelson Carter, Jaymes Sykes.

Plus, a host of other family and friends.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
