Danny
Childers
September 7, 1953 – July 14, 2024
Danny Childers, born on September 7, 1953, in Joplin, Missouri. He was known for his
spirited, resilient, and resourceful nature. From a young age, Danny demonstrated
independence and a knack for getting things done. At the age of Seven, he lived on a
farm with his parents, surrounded by horses, chickens, and pigs. His father tried to
teach him to hunt, but Danny's kind heart couldn't bear to harm animals. This
compassion defined him throughout his life.
After graduating high school, Danny moved to Colorado, where his uncle helped him
secure a job in construction. He later worked as a maintenance man in an apartment
building where he also lived. Danny had two beloved service cats, Smoky and Rosebud.
Concerned that Smokey might be lonely, brought Rosebud into their family to keep
Smoky company.
Despite his diabetes Danny had a sweet tooth and a love for food, and an evident love
for television. He had 20-plus antennas around his house just to get more channels. He
had an extensive collection of music cassettes, CD's, records and his most recent
purchase, a turn table. Danny was tough but obeyed the rules, just living life on his own
terms, doing what he wanted when he wanted. He often walked to Johnny's Cigarette
Shop on Colfax where he would indulge in his love for sparkly, blingy jewelry and his
cigarettes. His community took care of him, always looking out to ensure he was okay.
Danny spent his last years at Hidden Brook, a place he loved, supported by a kind and
caring community. He was an exemplary example of serving his community, always
concerned for the safety of his friends and especially the children. Danny leaves behind
a legacy of independence, kindness, and a love for life's simple pleasures.
Danny Childers passed away peacefully at Swedish Hospital on July 14, 2024. In his
final days, he was cared for by Leticia, whose patience and tireless care meant the
world to him. Striving to regain his strength, Danny's journey came to a peaceful end He
will be deeply missed by his community and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
