Caephas Earl
Davis
June 8, 1946 – June 14, 2024
Caephas Earl Davis, better known as Earl, was born on June 8, 1946, in Sulligent,
Alabama, to his parents, Walter James and Octavia (Grant) Davis. He joined his siblings
Sunny, Louis, James Henry, Sammie, Lucielle, John, and Charlie. He was baby boy 8 of
9, and Amory would later be added to the family. In 1965, Earl completed his formal
education at Todd Training School in Vernon, Alabama.
Earl went on to join the United States Air Force, where he earned his three stripes and
served a tour in South Korea. Once permanently stationed in Denver, Earl joined his
elder siblings and planted his roots. Denver is where he met and married Gwendolyn
Pruitt in 1973. They then had two children, Marcus Earl Davis and Stephanie Nicole
Davis.
By profession, Earl began his career with a 4-year sheet metal work apprenticeship. He
then received formal training where he was required to complete 671 hours of welding
certifications. His adventurous career led him to become a Drafter and Welder at Rocky
Flats, where he retired in 1993. In 2005, Earl and his son (Marcus) began a joint venture
as the owners and operators of a trucking company, Davis and Son Trucking.
Earl was a pillar in the Montbello community, where he coached little football and
baseball. He was also known as the "go-to diquat; for all things field trip-related. Earl's
hobbies included fishing, golf, his beloved Corvette, and, most notably, grilling.
Caephas Earl is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Davis; son, Marcus Davis; daughters,
Stephanie Davis and Marquette Wright; grandchildren, Desean Marcus Davis Young,
Armani Renee Davis, and Makhi Tyree Davis; baby Roniin Maurice Johnson, Kamaria
Wright, Miyoshi Wright, Michael Wright, Matt Monroe, Telesha Monroe, and Cesar
Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Amonate Miller, A'layjah Miller, and Avalynn Monroe;
and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
Earl's legacy of never saying "no" will be cherished by those who were fortunate enough
to have known him. His constant consideration and love are things his family will
celebrate forever. May he rest in peace.
