Welcome to the memorial page for

Percy Alexander Goodwin

June 11, 1937 ~ December 31, 2017 (age 80)

Percy Alexander Goodwin was born June 11, 1937 to the late Edward Mack Goodwin, Sr. and Ollie Regina Melancon Goodwin at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Percy left this earthly life on Sunday, December 31, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.

Percy married Lillie Mae Golden on October 16, 1961 and they were married for 51 years before she passed away July 2013. Percy retired from the United States Air Force and the Post Office after 41 years. There were no strangers to Percy. Everyone was always welcome and made to feel like part of the family. Percy and Lillie were generous to a fault, giving of their time, their money, their food, their home to anyone needing a hand or a friend.

Percy was a strong, generous, protective, straight forward and wise man. In Percy’s last years he lost his short term memory through dementia but his long term memory remained intact. Everyone loved hearing his version of growing up in New Orleans, moving into the 9th Ward, being mischievous with his brothers, serving in Vietnam, living through racism and the civil rights era, etc. His greatest memory of all was his love for Lillie. Percy never lost his sense of humor and ability to issue the perfect wise-crack at the perfect time.

Percy was preceded in death by his love, Lillie Mae Golden, father Edward Goodwin, Sr., mother Ollie Goodwin, brother Lester Goodwin, son Lonnie Claiborne. He leaves to honor his memory: children:  Reginald (Pat) Watson, Kenneth Goodwin, Helen (Richard) Benson, Michael (Perie) Goodwin, Maurice (Nilka) Goodwin; siblings: Edward II (Mildred) Goodwin, Paul (Jacqueline) Goodwin, Walter (JoAnn) Goodwin, Meriam Hodge, twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a great host of friends.
